Prostate Support Saw Palmetto & Pygeum Plus with L-OptiZinc, Lycopene, Nettles, Pumpkin Seed Oil
Saw palmetto extract is a popular remedy for enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy – BPH), a condition common in men over 50 years of age. This should be used only after proper diagnosis by physician. Clinical studies indicate that the extract can increase urine flow and reduce frequency of nighttime urination.
Pygeum (pigeum africanum) grows in Africa. It has been shown that phytosterols, found in the bark of pygeum can reduce prolactin levels. Prolactin induces the uptake of testosterone which enlarges the prostate. L-OptiZinc: Zinc inhibits the activity of testosterone 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone to DHT. Zinc has also demonstrated the ability to inhibit secretion of prolactin, a pituitary hormone that stimulates prostatic testosterone uptake, and therefore prostate enlargement. However, not all zinc supplements are created equal. Inorganic and chelated forms of zinc have low to moderate absorption potential. L-OptiZinc has proven to be the most bioavailable form of zinc. Nettle’s root affects hormones and proteins that carry sex hormones (such as testosterone or estrogen) in the human body. This may explain why it helps benign prostatic hyperplesia (BPH). Although less frequently used alone like saw palmetto or pygeum, some limited clinical trials suggest benefit of nettle root extract for men with milder forms of BPH. Pumpkin Seed Oil (curcubita pepo) is rich in zinc, a prolactin inhibitor. Pumpkin seeds are also rich in a fatty acid which exerts a powerful diuretic effect on the choked bladder. Amino acids alanine, glycine, and glutamine in pumpkin seeds have also demonstrated efficacy in clinical studies. While the singular effect of each are promising, the cumulative, synergistic activity of all substances in this formula can dramatically increase the efficacy of BHP therapy.**

Policosanol10mg.
A 2002 analysis in the American Heart Journal reviewed more than 60 clinical trials of sugar cane-derived policosanol that involved more than 3000 patients. The authors concluded that policosanol is "a very promising phytochemical alternative to classic lipid-lowering agents such as statins." This could be welcome news for some of the 30 million Americans who are currently using the expensive statin drugs (Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, Mevacor, Crestor, etc…). Some studies indicated that policosanol is not only equal to, but may possibly even be somewhat more effective than statins or fibrates in lowering total and LDL cholesterol and increasing "good" cholesterol, or HDL. One study showed that patients taking the standard daily 10 mg dose of policosanol experienced a 17% drop in total cholesterol, a 25.6% drop in LDL cholesterol, and a 28.4% rise in HDL cholesterol. These percentages are equal to results obtained with statin medications. Some studies confirmed the cholesterol-lowering effects of policosanol in specific groups, including post-menopausal women, the elderly, and people who have both diabetes and heart disease. In addition, policosanol was effective in treating intermittent claudication, a condition in which poor circulation in the legs causes severe leg pain during exercise. Because policosanol reduces the tendency of blood to clot by reducing the "stickiness" of blood platelets, the tiny particles involved in clotting, it may help prevent cardiovascular disease in a manner similar to aspirin.**
